Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”27 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.28 Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”
The Face of Patriarchy
One of the greatest strongholds, which keeps humanity trapped in paradigms that do not allow people to experience the new conciouseness that Christ came to reveal, is patriarchy and its ramifications: hierarchy, legalism, chauvinism and machismo. These paradigms are instruments to exert control and power, which manifest as violence over those that are to be dominated.
Violence or abuse is the face of deception. Abuse is a social problem according to groups who believe that change will come through a social transformation of values and beliefs. When defining a social problem from a biblical perspective we need to focus on individuals living in a world that is sensory experienced and understood, influenced by what they learn, and by their spiritual realm. However, what we learn comes from personal experiences that our senses interpret and references already affected by the distorted worldly knowledge.Teacher, parent, and/or caregiver pass down their teachings, under the influence of their personal experiences and other people’s process of learning and experiences. From this perspective, we continue to stand inside the circle, because of what is already clear that the abuser is in control and has power over the weak.Social transformation is not possible without individual transformation, which consists of a change of heart. Without a change of values and beliefs in the conscious and unconscious mind of the abuser and the abused, change can never occur.
More than 1,900 years ago, the Apostle Paul was dealing with the manifestation of the sinful human nature in the church. Today, we continue dealing with the same problems in the church and in society alike. Control and Power are the face of deception in the world, society, church and family, which manifest as: physical, sexual, psychological, emotional and spiritual violence or abuse. Control and power are the basic needs of a darkened understanding and a hardened heart that is fed with a continual lust for more. Abusers are followers of the ways of control and power, the spirit who is at work in those who are against God (Ephesians 2:2).
The Apostle Paul's declaration on Galatians 3:26-28:
For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
By revealing the apostle's frame of mind, Christians are not to be dualistic in their ideologies but holistic a union of spirit, soul and body, union towards God, self and others. To be one in Christ Jesus means that patriarchy and it ramifications are no longer the model for family, social structures, economics, politics and religion. Oneness in Christ implies a shift towards a new paradigm. God wants us to relate in unity, to manifest love towards all humanity, where there is no separation because of race, culture, economical power or gender. For we are all one in Christ! However, the anti-Christ frame of mind is one that manifest power and control over those that are perceived and valued as weaker and or as possessions. Patriarchy is a system created to exert control and power over women in the name of God and it comes from a distorted interpretation of the Bible.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."
This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
